Of those eleven, only THREE were all-new titles and not remakes/updates/remasters/ports. It won’t be until 2015 that the new-gen fully takes over, as the last-gen is truly on it’s last legs.Ģ014 saw only 11 console titles, for the second straight year in a row, scoring over 90% (via metacritic). Sadly, this was another transition year for the industry in 2014, as we weaned ourselves only partially off the last-gen (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP) & into the next-gen (PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, PS Vita). Indie Games truly competed with the big boys this year, whereas iOS/Android/Mobile and PC/Mac/Linux also made impressive showings. Runners up are Dark Souls II & Bayonetta 2. 4” (as we call it around these parts) the highest-rated original game of 2014. It wasn’t a close call, because nearly all of the best-rated games this year were remakes or updates, such as Grand Theft Auto V next-gen & The Last of Us: Remastered, making “Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has come out on top as the single GREATEST GAME OF 2014!
